Thomas McDonagh Pipe Band

Established in 1963 The Thomas McDonagh Pipe Band are a proud, vibrant non-competition band led by Pipe Major, Joe ‘The Shot’ Barry.  They have played numerous festivals and sporting events across Ireland and the U.K.

In 2005 the band performed at the annual New York City St.Patrick’s Day parade.  They have also lead St.Patrick’s Day parade’s in Disneyland Paris and more recently in London. In 2013 they celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Each year in preparation for the festival our first call is to the Thomas McDonagh pipe band and the conversation goes something like this. “Hello Joe, how are you? Deirdre Scanlan here how are you for the festival this year?”, “Name the time and date Deirdre, we’ll be there”.

Our association with ‘The Shot’ and the Templemore band comes by way of former committee member, Killaloe native Michael Scanlan who’s friendship with ‘The Shot’ spans many, many, many years. Indeed the Sunday pipe band parade was Michael’s idea, and since 2013 it has become one of the most visible and popular events on the festival program.
